Sunday Brunch: Egg in a Hole

Sunday’s breakfast was once again courtesy of Pinterest.

Those who know me well, will be surprised that I chose this for our meal. Yes, I actually like bell peppers now, particularly red, orange and yellow.

Either the bell pepper I got was too narrow (which is what I’m thinking) or the eggs too big (I always get large eggs) and we got some leakage. It should be noted that the recipe says to cook these in a non-stick pan. They got stuck on the cast iron. We had some leftover basil so we garnished the eggs-in-a-hole with it. Tasty!

Winter Wreath

I first saw this wreath a few months ago on Pinterest and quickly pinned it for myself. I love that it’s wintery, not just Christmas. I really like the use of neutrals (which is normally not my bag). We started working on it at the beginning of December and finally finished it today (nothing like a snow day to do some crafting).

After some complications trying to use foam tubing for plumbing as the wreath form (weight of the balls was too heavy for the foam), we decided to go with the good ol’ grapevine wreath.

Petition Against PIPA and SOPA

Do your part and sign the petition to stop SOPA and PIPA. Sites such as The Oatmeal, Pinterest and Etsy are just a few that are at risk, not to mention blogs (such as mine).

Stop The Wall and sign a petition and contact your Congressperson or Senator.

Neil Gaiman posted an open letter on his blog which is well said.

Sunday Brunch: pancakes

A few years ago Harry and I decided to start having Sunday breakfast/brunch together. He usually cooks. I can’t make pancakes to save my life, so it’s for the best. He’s also a lot more patient than I am and actually enjoys cooking where as I do it because we gotta eat to live. Also, he makes one hell of an omelet and crepes.

This past Sunday I decided that I will start sharing what we have. My plan is to post once a week.

Good ol’ pancakes. Nothing quite like piping hot pancakes right off the griddle. We also had a hard-boiled egg* and tea (Red Rose for me, Chai for Harry).

Harry used the recipe from The Good Housekeeping cookbook. A few years ago when I wanted to get a cookbook I decided on The Good Housekeeping one because growing up my mom had one and so I was familiar with it. Boy was I surprised when I flipped through the new one. The new one is nothing like the old one. So much as changed culinary since the 70s. I inherited my mom’s old one after the fire. So now I have both. One all new and clean and one old with lots of splatter stains. :)

I love ‘em, but never think of making ‘em. Why? Because I can never remember how to cook them. Then I came across this on Pinterest. Perfect eggs every time!

Unusual Winter

There’s something invigorating about walking in cold weather.

Despite the temperature (31°) and still having a cold I went for a walk today. I haven’t been able to go for a walk really since I got a bone bruise on my left knee during the summer (they can take a really long time to heal). So I’ve had to limit my exercise to mostly swimming. Anyway, I’m digressing.

We still haven’t had any snow. Yeah, that’s right. It’s January 16th and the most snow we’ve had been the weekend of Halloween. Even then we didn’t get much (We never even lost power.). It’s really weird.

Harry has already asked that if it’s nice that we go on a picnic on his birthday, which is in ten days. With the general temps we’ve had (45-50°), it’s entirely possible.

Edit:
Well….Mother Nature decided to call me a liar. When I got outside to go get Harry from work it was snowing! It had been snowing for awhile because I had to clean the car off.

Note, when driving in snow, DO NOT STOP ON A HILL! Fucking assholes.

scarf hanger

File this under “Why didn’t I think of that?”

I saw a pin of this on Pinterest a week or two ago and thought how brilliant. I have a bunch of extra hangers and some extra shower curtain rings so I’ll give it a go. I needed Harry’s help clipping the curtain rings (they are little buggers!) shut. I decided to just hang my regular (non-winter) scarves for now.

I only have velvet hangers so it holds the weight pretty well. I would not suggest plastic hangers. Wooden would work since they are super sturdy. FYI – If you have only a few scarves like I do, make sure to distribute the weight evenly. ;)
