Apple Galette

Last week my husband I went apple picking.  What to do with so many apples?  A galette!  I used a few recipes as resources and did my own thing.

Apple Galette

1 refrigerated pie crust

4-5 apples, peeled, cored and sliced

4 T brown sugar

1 T flour (I use King Arthur unbleached)

1/2 t cinnamon

1 T butter plus a little extra for crust (I used unsalted)

raw sugar, optional

 

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Line baking sheet with aluminum foil and coat with cooking spray.  Place pie crust on baking sheet.

Peel, core and slice apples.  Place in a bowl.

Add flour, brown sugar and cinnamon to apples and toss to coat.

Arrange apples on pie crust leaving about a 2 inch border.

Fold edges of dough toward centre, pressing gently to seal.  Cut the butter into little pieces and place on top of fruit.  Apply a thin coat of butter on folded crust and sprinkle with raw sugar, if desired.

Bake at 350* for 30-40 minutes until the crust is lightly browned.

 

Today is overcast, rainy, wet and cold…and now it’s snowing!  A good day for a cup of coffee and a slice of galette with a little homemade whipped cream.
